China's Entry Visa Regulations: Updates to Transit Visa-Free Policy and Application Guidelines

In 2024, the National Immigration Administration of China announced significant updates to its entry visa regulations, including an expanded transit visa-free policy and streamlined guidance for travelers requiring standard visas.

Under the new policy, travelers eligible for transit visa-free entry can now stay in China for up to 240 hours (10 days), an increase from the previous 72 or 144 hours. This program also introduces 21 new ports of entry and exit, allowing more flexibility for foreign visitors transiting through China. Citizens from 54 countries, including Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil, and Canada, can take advantage of this policy when en route to a third country or region via China. Eligible travelers may enter through any of the 60 designated ports located across 24 provinces (regions or municipalities) and engage in activities within the approved areas during their stay.
